1967년에 보스톤에서 결성된 The J.Geils Band는 주로, 도시의 밤에 사는 여자들을 노래합니다.
이 곡 Angel in Blue도 술집의 무희를 대상으로 하고 있습니다. 그들의 가장 유명한 곡 Centerfold는 플레이보이 잡지의 센터폴드 걸(centerfold girl)에 대한 노래입니다. 남자들의 노고를 불쌍히 여겨주고, 피곤한 남자들의 축 늘어진 어깨를 따스하게 감싸안아주는 여인들이야말로 진정한 천사임에 틀림없습니다. 이 하나만으로도 살아야 할 이유는 되고도 남습니다.
센터폴드에서 마치 믹 재거와 같은 스타일로 노래하는 피터 울프는 몇 번이고 되풀이합니다.

블루지한 이들의 사운드는 감상에 잘 빠지는 우리나라에서 특히 인기가 있었던 것 같습니다.
"I'm Falling", "Just Can't a Wait"등 담배연기 자욱한 희미한 바에서나 어울릴 듯한 그들의 도시적이면서 쓸쓸한 음악들이 겨울 밤을 더욱 깊이 침잠시키는 듯 합니다.

아쉽게도 Angel In Blue 뮤직비디오의 음질이 많이 떨어집니다.
